Honor Thy Parents

Hey Youth, it's Nate again! This is my last week filling in for Asher, and I want to use this opportunity to touch on an important topic.

I am sure that all the dynamics that have come with COVID -19 have caused some conflict within our homes. I'm willing to bet that you have had some kind of conflict with your parents in the midst of this quarantine. Staying at home 24/7 surely brought some troubles in the home!

My biggest regret in my childhood and teenage years is how disrespectful I was to my mom. The Bible makes it very clear that we are to obey our parents. I didn't take these Bible verses seriously and apply them to myself. Let's take a look at what some of those passages say.

Colossians 3:20 - "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord."

Ephesians 6:1-3 - "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother" (this is the first commandment with a promise), "that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land."

Proverbs 1:8 - "Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and forsake not your mother's teaching,"

So I would exhort you to honor your father and mother, or whoever is taking care of you. Even if you agree with them or not. God has placed that authority over you, and if you dishonor your parents, you are dishonoring God.

Go above and beyond for your parents this week. Take out the trash without them having to ask you. Make your bed. Do the dishes. Clean up after yourself. Make your parents' lives easier because I promise this season is just as hard, if not more, for them than it is for you.

When your parents ask you to do something, do it. Don't argue with them why you shouldn't have to do it. Just do it, even if it's something you don't want to do or think you shouldn't have to do.

Praying For You As You Serve the Lord by Honoring Your Parents,

Nathan Vainio, Jr.
