Jack Makes a Decision

Dear Grace Kids and Families,

There once was a boy named Jack, one day he was faced with a difficult decision. His parents had asked him to spend time that morning before playing to pick up his toys in his large backyard, toys he had left all over the yard the day before. Jack had several friends in the neighborhood. It wasn’t long before his friends showed up at the fence, ready to play! Jack had only just begun to clean up the giant mess. His friends begged him to come play. Jack would really rather play than clean. Did he really have to clean?

If you were Jack, what would you do?

Jack had believed on Jesus as Savior a few months ago. He knew that God wanted him to obey his parents and clean the backyard as he was told. He also thought, maybe he could play now and clean later, his parents wouldn’t even know! His friends didn’t want to clean, they wanted to play, so they wouldn’t help him.

Every day, we are faced with decisions, just like Jack. Whether we are going to do things that are pleasing to God or do the things that displease God. Our sin nature means we want our own way, but God, the Holy Spirit living in you, helps you to do things God’s way. When we obey God and do things that are pleasing to Him, we will be happy. When we do the things that displease God, it may be fun, in the moment, but it will bring hurt and sadness.

Jack told his friends that he had to obey his parents first and then finish cleaning up the backyard before he could play. He wasn’t just obeying his parents, but he was pleasing God. God had given up His Son, Jesus, so that Jack and the rest of the world could have their sins forgiven. We do the things that are pleasing to God because we are different from others and want to obey and walk with God.

“He who heeds the word wisely will find good, and whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he.” Proverbs 16:20 NKJV

Obey God’s Word, and trust Him! You will be happy if you do! Today, choose to do things that are pleasing to God. Ask God to help you do the right thing.

With Love and Grace,
