If you walk outside and look into the trees, you will likely see a sparrow. Sparrows are small brown birds; they're not beautiful, colorful, rare, or expensive; in fact, they are plain looking and great in abundance, not worth much! Did you know that Jesus actually talks about Sparrows! A tiny, insignificant bird, the sparrow. Insignificant means: small and unimportant. Maybe sometimes you feel small and unimportant? Let's read this in Luke 12, what does Jesus say about sparrows?
"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows." Luke 12:6-7 ESV
You see, Jesus helps us understand just how insignificant sparrows are, in yet God has not forgotten them. Sparrows, plain little ol' birds, they are important to God! If sparrows are important to God, and He thinks of them, how much more does God see you and think of you? Jesus then tells us that He knows how many hairs are on your head! Wow! Can you imagine trying to count the number of hairs on your head?! Jesus is saying that God knows everything about you, he loves and cares about you! You are important to Him! Jesus says, "Fear not" or "Don't be afraid," you are valuable to Him!! If He cares about the sparrows, how much more He cares for you! You are loved by the Creator of all things; God!
On Sunday, I posted a devotional about God's Love. If you haven't gotten to see it, check it out on graceamarillo.com.
