The Shipwreck of a Lifetime
3-Day Devotional From Pastor Bill’s Sermon – February 8, 2026
Day 1: The Confidence of the Prisoner
-
Read: Acts 27:21-25
-
Devo: Paul was in chains, yet he was the most free man on the boat because he knew who he belonged to. While 275 others were paralyzed by fear, Paul stood up and said, "Take heart!". His confidence wasn't in the ship's captain or the Roman guards; it was in the Word of God delivered by an angel. Often, our storms aren't about us—they are about God showing His power to the people watching us.
-
Application: Who are the "275 people" in your life watching how you handle your current struggle? How can your trust in God encourage them today?

Day 2: The Danger of the Dinghy
-
Read: Acts 27:30-32
-
Devo: When the rocks got close, the sailors tried to lower the lifeboat and escape under a pretense. They thought they’d be safer in a small dinghy than on the big ship God promised to protect. We do this too—we try to find our own way out of hard marriages or difficult callings. But the promise of safety was tied to staying with Paul on the ship. If you jump ship, you’re taking your life into your own hands.
-
Application: In what area of your life are you tempted to lower the lifeboat and bail? What would it look like to cut the ropes of that escape plan and trust God instead?

Day 3: Covered by the Pitch
-
Read: Genesis 6:13-14
-
Devo: God told Noah to cover the Ark inside and out with pitch. Interestingly, that specific Hebrew word is almost always translated as Atonement. Just as the pitch kept the deadly waters of judgment out of the Ark, the Atonement of Jesus Christ keeps us safe from the storms of sin and death. We aren't just surviving the storm; we are at-one-ment with the Savior who conquered the greatest storm of all at Calvary.
-
Application: Do you see Jesus as just a historical figure, or as your "Pitch"—the very thing keeping you afloat and making you one with God?
