A 3-Day Devotional Based on Pastor Bill's message, June 14, 2026
Day 1
Read: Ephesians 5:15-21
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Devotional:
We rarely wake up automatically aligned with the heart of God. Just as a musical instrument falls out of tune through daily use and temperature changes, our spirits drift under the pressure of daily anxieties, cultural currents, and our own selfish inclinations. Scripture gives us a clear command: do not look to external, worldly influences to fill your gaps, but instead be continually filled and controlled by the Holy Spirit. This filling is not a one-time event that carries us through a lifetime; it is a rhythmic, daily dependence. We must actively choose to drink from the Lord every morning and every evening, allowing His presence to animate our actions and attitudes.
When the Holy Spirit truly fills a life, the evidence is impossible to hide. It completely rewires our daily reality, transforming our natural reactions into supernatural fruit. Our internal and external conversations shift toward things that honor God, our hearts become spaces of unprompted worship, and an unshakeable gratitude takes root—even in difficult seasons. Most transformatively, a spirit-filled life leads to mutual submission. Instead of walking into our homes, workplaces, or friendships demanding our own rights, the Holy Spirit empowers us to ask how we can serve, listen, and show grace to those around us.
Application:
Which of the four signs of a Spirit-filled life (godly conversation, personal worship, consistent thankfulness, or a submissive heart) feels most absent in your life today, and what practical step can you take to invite the Holy Spirit into that specific area?
Day 2
Read: 1 Peter 3:1-7
Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct. Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear—but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious... Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
Devotional:
Human relationships are the ultimate mirror for our own spiritual health. They quickly expose our selfishness, our impatience, and our deep need for divine grace. When God lays out the blueprints for how husbands and wives are to interact, He presents a standard that runs completely counter to human nature. Wives are called to a posture of deep respect and a gentle spirit, trusting God so profoundly that they do not give way to fear, even when walking through uncertain circumstances alongside an imperfect leader. This internal beauty is highly precious to God and possesses a quiet power that can win over hearts far more effectively than words or arguments ever could.
Husbands are given an equally weighty assignment: they are commanded to live with their wives in an understanding way. This requires intentional study, daily investigation, and proactive care. A godly man does not wait for his wife to demand attention; he actively seeks to understand her fears, protect her vulnerabilities, and honor her as an equal partner in God’s grace. This is a call to die to self in small, unseen ways every single day. Scripture issues a stark warning to men who ignore this mandate: treating your relationship carelessly directly disrupts your vertical relationship with God. True love requires us to stop trying to change the other person and instead focus entirely on fulfilling our own divine calling.
Application:
How can you intentionally choose to study, respect, or better understand the primary relationships in your life this week, shifting your focus away from their flaws and toward your own personal obedience?
Day 3
Read: Ephesians 5:25-33
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish... “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see to it that she respects her husband.
Devotional:
The boxes we build our lives upon will always change. We marry or form friendships based on shared hobbies, similar seasons of life, or mutual interests, but time inevitably alters those things. Health fades, careers transition, and human interests evolve. If a relationship is anchored only to these changing factors, it will eventually drift. The profound mystery of unity is that it requires a foundation beneath the boxes—a shared submission to Jesus Christ as both Savior and absolute Master. When two people are individually committed to following the same Lord, their separate paths naturally converge over time, drawing them closer to one another as they grow closer to Him.
Ultimately, earthly unity is designed to be a living, breathing illustration of an eternal reality: the relationship between Christ and His church. Our interactions, our forgiveness, and our endurance are meant to put the gospel on display for a watching world. The long, daily road of choosing love and respect over bitterness and distance chips away at our rough edges, slowly molding us into the image of Jesus. It is a sacred journey that requires relentless grace, constant reliance on the Word, and a determination to keep moving in the same spiritual direction. And as we walk this road of deep spiritual formation, we are invited to enjoy the ride, filling our days with the fun, laughter, and celebration that characterizes the kingdom of God.
Application:
In what ways can you adjust your daily routines to ensure that your life and relationships are being built on the permanent rock of Christ’s lordship, rather than the shifting boxes of circumstances?
