A 3-Day Devotional Based on Pastor Bill's message, June 21, 2026
Day 1 - The Standard of Our Walk
Read: 1 Thessalonians 2:9-12
⁹ For you remember, brothers, our labor and toil: we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. ¹⁰ You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless was our conduct toward you believers. ¹¹ For you know how, like a father with his children, ¹² we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.
Devotional:
In a world that constantly encourages us to lower our expectations and settle for the path of least resistance, the Word of God presents a radically different standard for our daily living. We are called to walk in a manner that is genuinely worthy of the God who called us into His kingdom. This is not a demand for flawless perfection, nor is it a rigid checklist designed to make us feel constantly guilty. Rather, it is a high, beautiful invitation to let our everyday actions reflect the incredible value of the rescue we have experienced. Like a loving father who sees the potential in his children and gently urges them forward, God invites us into a lifestyle that matches our identity as His children.
When we look at the life of the Apostle Paul, we see someone who didn’t just talk about truth; he lived it out through exhausting labor, holy conduct, and an unshakeable love for people. He could confidently tell others to look at his example because the transforming power of Jesus was an undeniable reality in his routine. Our lives are meant to carry that exact same weight. Our integrity at work, our patience at home, and our kindness to strangers should all serve as a clear pathway pointing people toward Christ.
We must remember that this worthy walk is only possible when we are properly motivated by wonder rather than legalism. If we view our faith merely as a heavy system of rules to enforce, we will quickly grow bitter, tired, and empty. True, lasting sanctification occurs when we stop trying to manage our behavior under our own strength and instead allow our hearts to be totally captured by His goodness. When we realize the magnitude of the kingdom we are inheriting, the desire to walk worthily becomes our natural, joyful response.

Day 2 - Fresh Fuel for the Journey
Read: Colossians 3:16 & Ephesians 5:18
Colossians 3:16 ¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:18 ¹⁸ And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit.
Devotional:
Life has a persistent way of wearing us down, draining our emotional reserves, and throwing unexpected trials directly into our paths. When the weight of a difficult week hits us, we quickly discover whether we are running on our own limited human willpower or on the supernatural strength that God provides. To navigate this broken world without becoming cynical or exhausted, we absolutely must have the right fuel inside our hearts. Scripture reveals that this essential fuel is a continuous, fresh combination of the living Word of God and the active filling of the Holy Spirit.
Think of it like a finely tuned two-stroke engine that requires an exact, fresh mixture of both gasoline and oil to run properly. If you only have the Word of God without the Holy Spirit, your faith can easily become cold, intellectual, and dry. You might grow smarter, but your heart remains distant. Conversely, if you seek emotional experiences with the Spirit but neglect the grounding truth of the Bible, you will quickly find yourself adrift without a true anchor. We need both. We need the structural truth of Scripture to align our minds, and we need the dynamic power of the Spirit to control and direct our steps.
Letting the Word of Christ dwell in us richly means moving far beyond a quick, once-a-week glance at a verse on Sunday morning. It means intentionally opening our lives to the text, meditating on it, and allowing it to deeply shape our worldview. When we combine that daily saturation of truth with a consistent surrender to the Holy Spirit, our spiritual lives ignite. This fresh fuel gives us the unexpected resilience to face grueling challenges with a deep, unshakeable sense of peace and joy.

Day 3 - The Identity of a Masterpiece
Read: Ephesians 2:4-10
⁴ But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, ⁵ even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— [...] ⁸ For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, ⁹ not a result of works, so that no one may boast. ¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Devotional:
Many of us spend our entire lives caught in a exhausting cycle of performance, constantly trying to prove our worth to those around us. We falsely assume that our security, our identity, and our standing before God depend entirely on how well we produce, how much we achieve, or how clean we keep our record. Yet, the absolute core of the Gospel shatters this performance-driven mindset by reminding us of exactly where we stood when God rescued us. We weren't merely struggling or falling a little short; we were spiritually dead in our faults, completely incapable of saving ourselves.
It was in that exact state of absolute helplessness that the two most powerful words in human history intervened: "But God." Motivated entirely by His rich mercy and an overwhelming, unearned love, He reached down into our darkness and made us completely alive together with Christ. This spectacular rescue was an entirely free gift of grace, completely unattached to our performance so that no one could ever boast. Your justification—your right standing before a holy Creator—is a finished reality that you simply receive through faith.
Now, as a rescued child of God, your identity has been profoundly redefined. You are explicitly called His workmanship—a word that carries the artistic depth of a beautifully crafted masterpiece or a perfectly composed poem. God did not save you to leave you sitting on a shelf; He intentionally redesigned you in Christ Jesus to step into meaningful, life-giving works that He prepared for you long ago. You do not work for His love; you work from His love, moving forward with the quiet confidence of a treasured masterpiece.
