Beyond Resolutions: God’s Will for Your Identity in 2026

As the second Sunday of 2026 arrived, Pastor Bill Gehm noted that many of us have already experienced the "highs and lows" of a new year. While the world’s top ten resolutions focus on physical health, saving money, and "being happy," the Bible offers a different priority: the sacrifice of praise. Pastor Bill challenges us not to be like the nine lepers who were healed by Jesus but never returned to say thank you. Instead, we are called to a life of "continual" thanksgiving—the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.

The foundation of this life is found in the P.R.A.I.S.E. acronym:

  • Prophecy is Personal: The Bible isn't just a book of ancient history; it is a personal revelation. Just as Jesus’ prophecy about building His church became a reality in the Book of Acts, God’s promises are active and true for you today.

  • Relationship, Not Religion: Christianity is about a Shepherd who knows His sheep by name. It’s a connection so deep that, like Pastor Bill’s cat Max who knows his voice, we learn to recognize and follow the Master’s lead.

  • Adoption. Ask: We are not just servants; we are adopted "Kingdom kids". This means we have the right to "get in the refrigerator" of God's grace and ask specifically for the Holy Spirit to be our Helper and Counselor.

  • Identity. In Christ: We often live in "bubble identities"—temporary roles like our jobs, sports teams, or even our marriages. But bubbles pop. Our true identity is being a "new creation" in Christ, standing on a Rock that doesn't burst under pressure.

  • Sovereignty. Supreme: God is in control, even over the "fleas" of life. Referencing Corrie ten Boom, Pastor Bill reminded us that even the irritations of life can be used by a sovereign God for our protection and His glory.

  • Evangelize. Enjoy Your Purpose: We weren't left on earth just to exist, but to be witnesses. When you engage the spiritual gifts God has given you, you find a joy that "thrills you to no end".

In 2026, let’s stop chasing temporary bubbles and start offering the priority of praise.
